TOWN DEPARTMENTS JOIN FORCES TO STOP ILLEGAL DUMPING;
Public’s help needed to keep Farmington clean.
The Farmington Police Department and the Highway Department are asking for the public’s help keeping Farmington clean. Recently the town has had a rash of illegal dumping incidents in rural areas of the town. The problem areas include:
Ten Rod Road
Bay Road
Poor Farm Road
River Road
Items dumped have included tires, roof shingles and bagged household trash. Not only is it illegal, it also costly for the Town due to the loss of revenue at the landfill and the commitment of labor and equipment to pick up these items. Recently Highway Department personnel cleaned up a pick up truck size load of roof shingles that had been illegally dumped. The cost of labor and equipment to clean up the shingles was nearly $1000.00. The Farmington Police Department is actively investigating this case and has identified possible suspects.
Therefore, if the public sees suspicious vehicles in those problem areas or vehicles carrying loads of tires or debris that appear out of the ordinary, they are asked to get vehicle descriptions and a license plate number, if possible. Citizens can contact the Farmington Police Department dispatch at 755-2231 with this information. If citizens wish to remain anonymous, they can call the department’s Crimeline at 755-9797 and leave this information.
Illegally dumping is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $1200. Also, perpetrators can also be court ordered to pay restitution to the Town.
