- Authorization to utilize the Farmington Landfill
Nobody will be permitted to enter the landfill without a valid sticker or other proper authorization.
- Issuance of Landfill Stickers
- Municipal Office Building – Landfill stickers will be issued at the Municipal Offices if a resident has a valid vehicle registration showing his/her residency and the Administration Secretary is able to either witness the resident place the sticker on the vehicle or adheres it to the vehicle him/her self.
- Farmington Landfill – Landfill stickers will be issued at the Farmington Landfill if a resident has a valid vehicle registration showing his/her residency and the Landfill Attendant is able to either witness the resident place the sticker on the vehicle or adheres it to the vehicle him/her self.
- Use of the landfill may be authorized through use of seasonal landfill permits in the case of non-resident homeowners. These will be issued only at the Municipal Offices during regular work hours.
In order to dispose of trash other than bulky waste and construction debris, residents shall be required to purchase and utilize Farmington Municipal Landfill Trash Decals. The cost of the trash decals will be set by the Board of Selectmen from time to time and are currently $1.00 each. Any residents bringing trash to the landfill must have Town Landfill stickers adhered to the bags or they will be turned away. Trash bags are not to exceed 30 gallons for each sticker. Bags that exceed 30 gallons will require two stickers. Please adhere the stickers to the top opening of the bags so that they are visible for the landfill attendants. Decals are available for purchase at most local stores and gas stations in Farmington.
- Collection of Fees for Waste Disposal
The gate attendant(s) will collect fees at the landfill. A receipt will be written for all cash transactions. Only the gate attendant(s) will collect these fees and issue receipts. All receipts shall be countersigned by the customer. Deposits to the Town Clerk-Tax Collector will be made periodically. Cash accumulation will not exceed $50.00
The gate attendant, equipment operator and laborer shall be issued portable radios to maintain contact with one another. The gate attendant shall be issued a cell phone so that contact may be made with a supervisor or the police department in case of emergency.
- Disorderly Conduct, Theft of Services and Unauthorized Dumping
In case where residents become unreasonably argumentive, disorderly or disruptive, the landfill attendants are encourage to notify the Farmington police Department. In the case where the equipment operator or laborer notice unauthorized dumping, they should approach the customer and remind them that they cannot dump without Farmington trash bags. If the customer proceeds anyway, the employed should note the license plate number, pull aside the bag or solid waste left by the customer and notify the gate attendant and the police department.
There will be no “picking” of the material deposited at the landfill. All items deposited at the landfill are property of the Town of Farmington.
- All heating oil tanks and gas tanks will be purged of residual fluids and the tanks cut in half. Automobile engines, transmissions, transaxles and rear ends will not be accepted at the landfill.
- All yard waste shall be taken to Earthtenders Compost located at the intersection of Paulson Road and Route 11 (see attached flyer for specific details). The Town of Farmington will no longer accept leaf and yard waste.
